Andy Murray at the Cincinnati Masters

September 04 2010

I’ve been a fan of Andrew Murray since he came in to view on the tennis circuit. I’m not the biggest tennis fan but I used to play when I was younger and when you have good players on court it can be very exciting to watch. I’m sitting watching the final of the Cincinnati Masters between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic and it’s a great game. Unfortunately it’s not on TV so I’m watching it on Sopcast which is a great service I’ve been using for about a year now.

If you haven’t heard of Sopcast yet and you like watching sport then definitely check it out. It’s basically a peer 2 peer system (so watch your security) where you can watch live streaming TV for free and you can get all of the big events on there, from football to tennis to basketball and on and on. I initially used it to catch the premier league football games which I can’t see because I don’t have SKY (satellite TV in the UK).

The only problem I have come up with so far is that yet again it is pretty much a Windows centric programme. I think there is a Linux version too but no Mac download is available. I tried searching and found this thread which explains two ways to get it working. Both involve using the windows binary in some kind of converter, and one involves having to buy some software. I tried using the Darwine option and it does work, although the stream stops after around 20 seconds. I did even try enabling the cache as it suggests in the thread but still no joy. If anyone knows how to get it to work properly then let me know as it’s the only thing stopping me from getting a Mac Mini for my living room.

C’mon Murray!! Only one more set…
